Liberty Bears Charter Member, Richard McCrary lost his battle with cancer Nov. 5, 2006. Richard was an active member until his illness struck in Nov. 2005. He was part of the Liberty Bears even before the club was officially constituted when meetings were held to see if there was interest and to draw up our by-laws.
Richard was a chef by profession. He worked over 40 years at the University of Pennsylvania creating meals for the dorm students. It's no wonder that Rich took upon himself the duties of preparing dishes for our monthly socials for many years. He is especially remembered for his secret recipe deviled eggs which were in great demand at all socials.
Richard was a proud gay man. He always wore one of his U. of P. gay liberation pins to work. He wore another on the front of his club vest with the Liberty Bears patch on the back.
Richard McCrary will be missed, but at our Liberty Bears General Meetings, we will mark him present!
